Eugene “Gene” O. Wagner, of Mequon, January 24, 2023 age 91 years. Gene was born on August 21, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Andrew and Esther (Borchert) Wagner. He served in the Army Reserve for 12 years. He worked for the City of Milwaukee for 33 years in the printing department.
In his younger years he was into photography, he loved to fish, making several fishing trips to Canada, was an avid trapshooter, and a great bartender back in the day.
After marrying Auntie, he got into woodworking and made some beautiful furniture, quilt racks, and other things always with great detail, and smaller things that Auntie would paint.
A life-long Lutheran, Gene was involved with decorating the church with Dejon for Christmas and Easter, he loved singing in the choir, and sang many solos for family weddings. More recently he sang The Lord’s Prayer at his wife Dejon’s funeral accompanied by Dave and Dan.
He also loved to cook, and grill outdoors. Most of all Uncle Gene loved his family, and having family gatherings around a great meal.
Gene is survived by his nephews, David (fiancée Natasha Schultz) Schmidt, Dan (Donna) Schmidt and Paul (Pat) Fredrich, and Niece, Diane (Andrew) Schumann. Further survived by other nephews, great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dejon, sister Beatrice (the late Bud) Schmidt, brother Matthew Fredrich, Doris Schmidt, two nieces, and one nephew, and one great nephew.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 1:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 Washington St., Grafton. Interment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at the church, on Saturday from 12 noon until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church and school are appreciated.
