Ethel Louise Ida Miller (nee Vogel) Ethel L. Miller (nee Vogel) of Cedarburg was reunited with her husband Oscar in heaven on Friday, July 3, 2015 at the age of 91. She was born June 30, 1924 in the Town of Jackson to Arthur and Erna (nee Krause) Vogel. On July 20, 1924, Ethel was made a child of God through her baptism at David’s Star Lutheran Church in Jackson. She was confirmed March 21, 1937 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. On February 28, 1943, Ethel married the love of her life, Oscar H. Miller. Ethel was the happiest when she was spending time with her friends or family, especially when a grandchild was on her lap. She made every birthday and family celebration special by never forgetting to send heartfelt cards or gifts. Ethel’s family truly cherished her cooking, baking and canning skills whether it was for supper, a birthday party or a treat from the cookie jar. When she wasn’t in the kitchen, you could usually find her tending her garden or taking care of the various animals on the Miller farm. She liked to relax with embroidery, puzzles or a friendly game of cards at Jackson Seniors. Ethel always looked forward to attending wedding celebrations. One of the highlights of a wedding for her was dancing polkas with her husband. After Oscar’s passing on November 26, 1981, she continued to enjoy polka dancing with her sons and grandsons. However, the most important focus of her life was her relationship with God. This was made evident by the joy she found in regularly attending church services and her participation as a member of David’s Star Ladies’ Aid. She will be remembered as the loving mom of Carl (Dianne), Lee (Darlene), Kenny (Chery), Diane (Bevan) Grueneberg, Bob (Barb), Wally (Renee), Debbie (Curt) Meinert and Dave (Nikki) Miller. Dear Sister of Mary (the late Dale) Spiekermann. Cherished Grandma of Stanley (Sherry) Miller, Maureen (friend Tom Stoffel) Demler, Melody (fiancé Rob Durham) Miller, Kevin (Kelly) Miller, Carol (Bob) Bralich, Brian (Sue) Miller, Scott Miller, Shawn (Holly) Miller, Erin (friend Daniel Schumann) Miller, Bevan (Deb) Grueneberg, Jason (Kris) Grueneberg, Aaron (Erin) Grueneberg, Sarah (Kyle) Luebke, Emily (Mike) Guild, Jessica Miller, Megan (friend Chuck Gambino) Miller, Alaina Miller, Ashley Miller, Annette (Rob) Kultgen, Adam (friend Chrissy Semmann) Meinert, Andrea Meinert, Brittney Miller and Katie Miller. Beloved Great-Grandma of Amanda, Tiffany, Zach, Makayla, Laurianna, Carmen, Hazel, Aubrey, Olivia, Grayson, Brianna, Connor, Lily, Morgan, Emma, Lydia, Aiden, Ella, Taylor, Natalie, Andrew, Abbie, Sophie, Caleb, Sadie, Jasmin and one more on the way. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, sisters Lauretta (Earl) Retzlaff, Gladys (Allen) Hoerchner, sister-in-laws Gertie (Milton Butt – Harry Mixdorf), Ada (Ruben) Gauger, Norma (Roland) Kison, Grandson Daniel Bevan Grueneberg and Great-Grandson Justin Carl Miller. A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 7:00 pm at David’s Star Lutheran Church (2740 David’s Star Drive), Jackson. Visitation will be at the church from 3:00 pm until 6:45 pm. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. Memorials to David’s Star Lutheran Church, Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School or Trinity Lutheran Church - Pleasant Valley Road are appreciated. A heartfelt thank you to Mary Mueller, Timber Cove and the Friendship House staff at Cedar Community for their loving care of our mother and grandmother. Ethel’s confirmation verse was a reflection of her life. “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit ~ fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. This is my command: Love each other.” John 15: 16-17
