For online condolences, please visit www.muellerfuneralhome.com. Emily was born on July 17, 1927 in Wausau, WI, daughter of Anthony and Ina Hennlich and grew up in the family home in Curtiss, WI. She graduated from Abbotsford High School, class of 1945. She continued her education at the Hade School of Design and Style in Milwaukee and later in life Milwaukee Area Technical Collage. Emily married the love of her life, Harry in 1949. Their marriage was blessed with three sons Michael (Dr. Honora Norton), Mark (Debbie) and Mitchell (Joan) Elert whom she loved with all her heart. Emily started her life of service after leaving Curtiss and moving to Milwaukee. She first worked at Belin Garment Company designing junior and misses’ dresses and gowns. After her marriage and first son Michael was born she became a full time homemaker. She was active in her sons’ schools, first as a den mother and PTA President. As PTA President she proposed, Bryant Elementary, part of Milwaukee Public Schools needed a library. They took her up on that and she became the school’s first librarian for which she ran until Harry and Emily moved to Cedarburg. Church service was also part of her DNA where she ran and taught Sunday school at King of Kings Lutheran Church on Milwaukee’s north side as well as “cajoled” her family into maintenance inside and out of the church itself. After the move to Cedarburg she continued her life of service becoming a Greeter at Cedarburg’s Cultural Center and an officer in the Miles Merwin Association. Faith Lutheran Church played a key role in her life after Harry’s death and she was an active member in the Widows’ group. It wasn’t all work for Emily. She and Harry joined “Jazz Unlimited” and sang and danced their way across the USA and places around the world. Her retirement with Harry going on “Trips” was always a great joy in her life. She was a painter, a sculptor and played the organ. A rock-star grandma she loved teaching her grandchildren how to be creators and spoiling them. Emily consistently was always Positive; Hopeful; Happy; Compassionate; Empathetic; a “Kwatchabeattle” (talked a lot) and loving. She will be greatly missed by her deeply saddened family, friends, and community. Emily is survived by grandchildren Michael, Mark Jr., Michelle, Nicholas and Alex Elert. Dear great-grandma of Adam, Jacob, and Matthew Elert. Further survived by her sister Jean (nee Romang), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Emily was preceded in death by her loving husband Harry, her father, Anthony Hennlich., and mother, Ina (nee Merwin); sister Evelyn Wanke; mother-in-law and father-in-law Gladys (nee Peterson) and Harry Elert Sr.; brother-in-laws Richard (Jeanette) and Kenneth Elert; sister-in-laws Ruth Aas and Barbara Elert.
