Elizabeth Johnson Pfeifer, age 90, passed away in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 23, 2022. She was born on May 21, 1931 in Madison, Wisconsin to Hobart Stanley Johnson and Mary Regina (O’Connell) Johnson. On July 21, 1951, she married John Stephan Pfeifer in Madison. A longtime resident of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Liz was very active in the community. She participated in state politics and was the Republican National Committee Woman for Wisconsin in the 1970s. She was also a delegate to several national Republican conventions. Liz was a member of the Neville Public Museum Corporation Board of Directors from 1980 to 1990. She was a member of several community organizations including the Peninsula Art School. Liz loved reading, bridge, needlepoint, and crocheting. She was most passionate about knitting, discovering her love of the art while making helmet liners for soldiers during World War II. She traveled the world learning new techniques and became a certified international knitting instructor. In her later years, she created and led a knitting club that made hats, scarves, and mittens for underprivileged children in Milwaukee. Liz is survived by four children: Stephan (Susan), Stanley (Susan), Mary (George Taybos), and Catherine (Paul Chavez). She is further survived by three grandchildren: Erich (Barbara) Pfeifer, Elizabeth (Adam Simons), and Alyson (Zachary Yeager). She also has two great grandchildren: Luke Yeager and Kayla Yeager. Liz was preceded in death by her husband, sister (Regina Thomlinson), and brother (Stanley Johnson). In remembrance of Liz’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the New Foundation Fellowship C.O.G.I.C. Church food pantry, 2418 North 19th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53206. Mattie Ward, Liz’s longtime caregiver, volunteers there.
