Elizabeth Esther Hembel (nee Hassmer) passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at the age of 103 years.
Elizabeth was born on May 30, 1921 to Peter O. Hassmer and Luella C. Hassmer in the town of Polk. She graduated from West Bend High School, class of 1938.
Elizabeth married Jerome H. Hembel on April 18, 1942 at Peace Reformed Church in Jackson. Jerome preceded her in death in 1993. The couple moved to Grafton in 1961 and owned and operated Hembel Implement before moving to Cedarburg in 1980. Elizabeth worked for the family business and also was a CNA at Lasata until she retired in 1979. She was a longtime member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Grafton.
In 2011, Elizabeth moved to Lasata Heights and later to Lasata Crossings where she had many friends and enjoyed many of the activities, especially playing cards and games.
Elizabeth is survived by three daughters, Jill Benson, Amy (Dave) Cook and Hope (Don) Wendtland, three grandchildren; Adam (Megan) Helms, Matthew (Becky) Helms and Amber (Mike) Bell, five great-grandchildren; Elliott & Finley Helms, Henry Bell, Wesley & August Helms. She is further survived by her sister, Katherine Lutzke, other relatives and friends. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome, sons; Lee and Todd and her son-in-law Gary Benson. Private family services will be held.
