Dr. Robert Lewis Hetzer passed away unexpectedly on Saturday August 16th. He was 88 years old. Bob was born in New London, Wisconsin on October 26th, 1919, the youngest child of Francis Edward and Mary Frances Hetzer, (Knapstein) and attended Most Precious Blood Catholic School and New London high school. Bob enlisted in the Army-Air Corps in 1940 and was stationed in Europe during WWII from 1943 until 1945. Bob was discharged from the Air force as a Captain in June of 1953. Bob graduated from Lawrence University (where he first started playing the tenor saxophone) in Appleton, Wisconsin. Following the war he enrolled in dental school at Marquette University where he met and married (June 23, 1951) a young and beautiful dental hygienist named Elaine Tittelfitz. Together they raised seven sons starting off their married lives in Omaha, Nebraska, then moving to Jefferson, Wisconsin and finally ending up in Cedarburg, Wisconsin in 1968. Bob was a devout member of St. Francis Borgia / Divine Word Catholic church in Cedarburg, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Bob was preceded in death by his wife and parents and his siblings Lucille Gross, Margaret Wudtke, Dorothy O'Neil, Edward, Katherine, Theodore and Raymond and three grandsons. He is survived by his seven sons and their wives; Daniel and Margaret, Michael and Kathryn, Mark and Candice, David and Jodi, Christopher and Jody, Joseph and Kimberly, Scott and Dana. There are thirteen grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Frederick Tittelfitz and his wife Karen and many loving nephews and nieces. Bob was very competitive in everything he did whether it was playing bridge or pitching baseball where he threw a mean knuckle ball and screw ball. His steadfast faith carried him through his bout with colon cancer and other tribulations in his life. He led an exemplary life for his children and grandchildren to follow. Visitation for Bob will be on Saturday September 6 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at St. Francis North at 1375 Covered Bridge Road, Cedarburg WI 53012. A funeral mass will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bobs name to Saint Francis Borgia parish would be accepted.
