Donald "Donny" A. Helms,

of Watertown, WI, passed away on September 20, 2024 at the age of 70.

He was born in Waukesha, WI, in 1954 to Betty and August Helms, Donny grew up in Menomonee Falls, WI. He joined the Army at the age of 17 and proudly served from 1971 to 1974. In 1981, he met his beloved wife, Nancy, while they worked together at the Helms Family Restaurant, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together.

Donny was a dreamer, always envisioning new projects and pursuits, no matter how ambitious. He was a "yes" man, ready to lend his time, talents, and support to anyone in need. A skilled chef, he had a discerning palate and a clear vision for how he wanted his meals to turn out. Donny loved sports, card games, fishing, and ice cream, and he especially enjoyed playing horseshoes during family outings at Riverbend Campground. Above all, he cherished his time with his wife and children. He also prioritized his grandchildren, never wanting to miss a family event or special occasion.

In recent years, Donny faced numerous health challenges but remained optimistic throughout, always making an effort to participate in family reunions, outings at the pond, attending his grandkids sporting events and musicals, and basketball games in the yard with his grandkids.

He was a loving husband and father, survived by his wife, Nancy Schubert Helms; son, Denton Helms (Christina); daughter, DeAnna Helms Considine (David); and five grandchildren: Hailey Helms, Della Considine, Austin Helms, Davis Considine, and Dottie Considine. He is also survived by his siblings: Debbie Helms Love (Mark), Danny Helms, Darlene Helms Lopez (Emilio), Dawn Helms Scheff (Guy), and Jesse Helms, along with many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Donny is preceded in death by his parents, Betty and August Helms.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Immanual Lutheran Church in Cedarburg, WI from 10:30 AM till 12:00 PM. A funeral service and celebration of life will be held at the church at 12:00 PM with Pastor Vicki Simon officiating.
