Dolores G. Chmielewski

Dolores was born on January 18, 1931, in Flora, Illinois, the daughter of the late William Cupples and the late Ruth (nee Caldwell) Cupples. After her junior year in high school, Dolores lived in Washington D.C., where she graduated from Anacostia High School, in 1948. After her father’s military transfer to New Jersey, Dolores enrolled in Red Bank Business College and graduated the following year. She began working as a legal secretary, but eventually worked for Civil Service as a secretary, in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. A few years later, Dolores was united in marriage, to her late husband, John E. Gooding, while living in California. Their marriage was blessed with one son, John. She and her family relocated several times, and eventually found a home in Rochelle, Illinois, where she worked as a secretary for the Dean of Agriculture, at a local community college. After John’s passing in April of 1989, she decided to move to Wisconsin to be closer to her son and his family. In 1992, she married Walter Chmielewski and acquired a much larger family, including two step-daughters and three step-grandsons. They enjoyed traveling, spending the winter months in Arizona, as well as gardening. Walter preceded her in death, exactly one year prior to her passing. Dolores is survived by her son, John Gooding; step-daughters, Frances (Dan) Rudolph and Lynn Zirbes; grandchildren, Michael (Alycia) Gooding, Joseph A. Gooding, Jerome (Dawn) Zirbes III, Nicholas Rudolph, and Matthew Rudolph; great-grandchildren, Jackson Gooding, Anika Preder, and Vincent Zirbes, and sister, Cathy Cupples. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, John E. Gooding and Walter Chmielewski, and brother, Dennis Cupples. Cemetery: Private Memorials to the American Cancer Society appreciated
