Diane Kay Benson was born on December 31, 1953 at the United States Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD as the first child of Lee and Adele (nee Borgendale) Benson. In a ninth grade career paper, she wrote it about being an occupational therapist. She graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1972 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. She was a Registered Occupational Therapist her entire career, and most recently worked for the Aurora Visiting Nurse Association. Diane will be remembered for her selflessness and her unwavering faith and trust in God. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She always loved her career as an occupational therapist, and she enjoyed reading, singing, playing the piano, taking walks in nature, cooking, and cheering on the Wisconsin Badgers. She is a loving mother of David (Kristin) Whaley and Andrew (fiancée Anna Marie Armbruster) Whaley, beloved daughter of Lee and Adele (nee Borgendale) Benson, dear sister of Brian Benson, Karen Milbrath, and Jon Benson, and is survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Our deepest appreciation to Diane’s dear friends, Mary Mueller, Susan Wegener, and Diane Wenniger. Diane went home to the Lord on March 12, 2015. Her quiet strength and solid faith is an inspiration to all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorial contributions be made to: University of Wisconsin-Madison Occupational Therapy Program 2120 Medical Sciences Center 1300 University Avenue Madison, WI 53706 Or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
