David H. Mathias of Cedarburg found eternal peace with his lord and savior in heaven on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the age of 75. Dave was born November 22nd, 1937 to Douglas and Loraine (nee Hohner) Mathias of Shorewood, WI. He graduated from Shorewood High School in 1955. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1959 achieving the rank of Sergeant and stationed in Heidelburg Germany. Upon his return, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dave married Kathleen (nee Pallen) on June 3rd, 1961. They started their family in Brown Deer, WI where Dave served his community as an alderman, commissioner and President of the local Jaycee Chapter. Together, Dave and Kathy made their permanent home, family and life in Cedarburg in 1977. Dave loved and committed himself to his family and friends, to his extended family at Scot Pump Company of Cedarburg where he served as Vice President and General Manager for 50 years, to his community which he served through the Cedarburg Rotary Club and to the game of golf. Dave was often in the seats and bleachers of his children’s and grandchildren’s tennis, swim, volleyball and track meets; dance recitals and dance team competitions and basketball games. Dave was a Paul Harris fellow in the Cedarburg Rotary Club having served as President in 1990-91. He remained active in the club until his death. When Dave wasn’t planning or attending a family related event, or serving a Rotary function, or running Scot Pump; or at his home in Florida; he was probably on a golf course somewhere in the world. Though he did not take up the game until age 50, Dave had the privilege of playing every one of Golf Digest’s 1998 and 1999 Top 100 U.S. Courses and many of Scotland’s epic courses. He shared his passion for the game and 6 holes-in-one with his children, grandchildren and many friends. Dave is preceded in death by his parents and infant son Robert. Dave is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen; his son Daniel (Lori) of Cedarburg; his daughter Laurie (Kirk) Thompson of Fox River Grove, IL; his daughter Suzanne Kummet (Tim Spilde) of Wauwatosa; his son Robert (Kris) of Grafton; grandchildren Katie and Julia (Thompson), Natalie and Allison Mathias, Collin, Ethen and Brandi Mathias; brother Richard of Chevy Chase, MD; and brother Stuart (Marci) of Whitefish Bay. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. The Mathias family wishes to thank the Doctors, nurses and staff of Froederdt and the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Sarcoma Cancer Center, especially Dr. John Charlson. Memorials to The Sarcoma Foundation of America www.curesarcoma.org would be welcomed by the family. An open house to remember and celebrate Dave’s life will be held Wednesday, February 13th from 4:30 PM – 7:30PM at Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg.
