Dale R. Mantel

Dale R. Mantel found eternal peace on February 26, 2024 at the age of 65. Dale was born on November 28, 1958 in Milwaukee to the late Alvin and Pat (nee Dowe) Mantel. He graduated from Germantown High School in 1977. Dale married Arleen (nee Schellinger) on June 8, 1991. They were blessed with 2 wonderful sons, Brandon and Travis.

Dale carried on his family's legacy as the third-generation owner of a business founded by his grandfather, working alongside his parents, Alvin and Pat and brother and sister, Dean & Dawn throughout the years. He served as President of the company since 2007. Since 2015, Dale’s son Brandon has joined the family business as the fourth generation. He was being mentored by Dale in preparation for a smooth ownership transition.

Dale cherished his family, and his love extended beyond his immediate family. He served as a father figure to many, including Brandon and Travis's friends, who held a special place in his heart and his home was always open to them. He actively supported them and his family, never missing a sporting event they were involved in.

Dale was very passionate about stock car racing. In his younger years he was a crew member with Vogel Brothers Racing, which toured the Midwest and Canada running the ASA racing series. In later years he continued his love for racing as a spectator, by traveling across the country to watch races with family and friends.

Dale and his son Travis shared an enthusiasm for Marquette basketball. They were season ticket holders, cheering alongside each other and created lasting memories together.

Every fall, Dale’s focus shifted towards his deep love for football. He stayed updated with high school, college, and the Green Bay Packers; and eagerly followed the journeys of any player or coach he knew.

Dale’s love for Arleen was evident in the way he cherished spending time with her. He always supported her in her interests and passions. Even when he didn’t personally enjoy some of them, he always accompanied her. He was a wonderful husband to her and knew exactly how to calm her storms.

Dale loved to travel and especially loved road trips. He shared his interest with his family and showed them the country. He had a gift of knowing how to maneuver around big cities and country sides, always finding interesting places to visit.

Dale, a man of quiet strength, touched many hearts with his kindness, generosity, and humility. His gentle presence will leave a lasting impact on those who knew him, and his memory will hold a special place in their hearts.

Dale faced a courageous battle with esophageal cancer that metastasized since 2018. He faced his challenges head-on, inspiring all who knew him with his unwavering faith, perseverance, and love for his family. These were the forces that gave him strength throughout his journey, all while maintaining a spirit of quiet resilience and no complaining about his situation. A very heartfelt thank you to Dr. Ben George and his medical team at Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin. Dale never worried about the seriousness of his illness because he had so much faith in Dr. George.

Dale had a deep bond with a very special friend, Alaina Shelsta. They both inspired and loved each other dearly. Like him, she’s facing a significant health challenge. Her condition, Glut1 deficiency, is a rare genetic disorder affecting brain metabolism. Also, Faith Lutheran Church in Germantown held a special place in Dale's heart. He was a lifelong member, finding a deep connection with the community and spiritual growth. Memorials will be gifted to “The Alaina Shelsta Special Needs Trust” or Faith Lutheran Church in Germantown.

Dale is survived by his loving wife, Arleen and sons Brandon of Hartford and Travis of Hubertus. Brother Dean (Paula) Mantel and sister Dawn Carranza. Sister-in-law Cheryl (Jeremy) Sandretti, brother-in-law, Mike (Cathy) Schellinger, Mark (Cindy) Schellinger, Merle (Cindy) Schellinger, and Al (Krysta) Schellinger. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Pat Mantel, in-laws Richard and Mary Ann Schellinger, sister-in-law Jodi Mantel and nephew Chase Mantel.
