Charles R. "Dick" Mccomis

Charles Richard McComis of Grafton, WI, entered eternal life on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the age of 73. Chuck (Dick) was born to his parents Charles Walter McComis and Leola Drahn McComis on June 24th, 1944, in Monona, Iowa. It was a Saturday and the weather was warm and sunny. Simply a great day to be born. Heck, some people confuse Iowa for heaven as it is. Chuck’s father (Charles) was a naval officer and he and his brother, Robert, moved with their parents to and from several bases. Leola passed away in August, 1956 and Chuck and Bob moved back to Iowa to live with their grandparents, Walter and Elsie Drahn, while their father was stationed in Sheboygan, WI. In November 1958 his father married Anne Reiss of Sheboygan, WI. Charles and Anne gave Chuck 4 more brothers and 2 sisters. In 1962 Charles retired from the Navy and the family settled in Sheboygan, WI. Chuck graduate from Kohler High School and then joined the Marine Core and received an honorable discharge after being injured. Chuck then moved to the Pacific Northwest and earned a degree in computer science and worked as a computer operator in the banking industry. In 1984 he moved back to Wisconsin to be closer to his family and worked for M&I Data Services as a computer operator. He retired from MIDS in 2004. Chuck loved the outdoors, especially fishing and gardening. The largest fish he ever caught was a salmon on the Columbia River in Oregon. His favorite color was blue. His two most favorite places were the Philippines, where the family was once stationed for the Navy, and the family cottage at Elkhart Lake. He loved animals, particularly dogs and birds. His favorite drink was milk, especially chocolate. He was left handed. He loved reading and when he no longer could hold books he had books on tape. He loved westerns, spy novels and science fiction. Chuck is survived by seven siblings; Robert (Nancy) McComis of Alpharetta, GA, Michael (Julie) McComis of Port Washington, WI, Gregory (Janet) McComis of Muenster, IN, Patrick (Sally) McComis of Cedarburg, WI, Mary McComis of Brookfield, WI, Barbara (Chuck) Brill of Pewaukee, WI, and Timothy (Laura) McComis of Oconomowoc. Fifteen Nieces and Nephews; Christine (Clay) Parks, Mark (Jessica) McComis, Mike McComis Jr, Matt McComis, Kelley McComis, Will McComis, Ella McComis, Katie McComis, Jacob (Lauren) McComis, Jordan McComis, Ben McComis, Sam McComis, Tevin McComis, Erin McComis and Steven McComis and five great nephews and nieces; Ansley Parks, Tyler Parks, Cole Parks, Madilyn McComis and Nathaniel McComis. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles, Leola and Anne McComis. Chuck wanted to thank all those that cared for him over the last decade. Specifically the staff of the Zablocki Veterans Medical Center in Milwaukee, the staff at Heritage Nursing Home in Port Washington and Aurora Hospice. Finally he wanted to express a special thanks to Sally Thornton McComis who spent countless hours holding his hand, praying with him, listing to music and just easing his mind and heart. Chuck left us with a gleeful heart, he knew his years of pain and suffering were coming to an end and that the promise of eternal life was coming his way. He loved Psalm 23 as his grandmother first taught him. He was at peace and expressed many times he was ready to go. He truly was a gentle giant and heaven is a better place now because he is there. He believed love was stronger than hate, laughter stronger than tears, a hug stronger than a slap, giving better than receiving. He believed in forgiveness and second chances. He was a good man and he will be missed. In order to allow as many family and friends to attend, a celebration of his life, with military honors, will be held at a later date this summer. A private family scattering of his ashes will occur shortly thereafter. Details will be provided when known. Memorial Donations should be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association.
