A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2009 12NOON at Cedar Creek Community Church (1414 First Ave.), Grafton, for Charles E. Gene Marshall, 82, long-time resident of Grafton, who left his mortal shell to be in the arms of Jesus on June 11, 2009. Visitation at the church from 10AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family appreciated. Charles was born on January 1, 1927, in East St. Louis, Illinois to Herbert and Kathleen (nee Cottingham) Marshall. He graduated from Collinsville Township High School in 1944. After high school, Charles met Dororthy Ellen Bowles. They were married on June 20, 1948, in Collinsville, Illinois and moved to Milwaukee in 1950. Later they moved to Grafton in December of 1957. Charles served his country in the Army in San Antonio, TX, earning the World War II Victory Medal. Charles was a wonderful woodworker. He liked to make cabinetry and made the cabinets in both his home and a daughters home. Charles also made several Scottie lamps for friends and family. A grandson also helped him make a coat rack. Electronics was also a passion of his. Charles would build tape recorders from kits, occasionally letting his children help by passing him resistors or letting them hold the soldering iron. He had an expert license for ham radio, building a few of his own radios along the way. Charles would also play the stock market for fun, using big spread sheets and ledgers to track his picks. He also was an avid golfer until a doctor told him he had to wear a hat due to his fair skin. Charles also loved photography, having his own dark room until the advent of color photography. Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; loving children Linda (Luke) Racine, Charles Eugene (Karen) Marshall Jr., Janice (Christopher) McCann and Debra Haddad; cherished grandchildren Kara, Mica (Janie), Eric (Marcy), Beth Ann, Phillip (Darcy), Jeremy (Jenny), Benjamin, Joshua and Erin (Brian); great-grandchildren Halle, Evan, Henry, Carter and Karis; sisters-in-law Marie Marshall and Catherine Ann Bowles; other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his two brothers Harold and William Bill. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family appreciated.
