Carol Parlow was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Milwaukee, the second of two children of William Parlow and Olive (nee’ Moths). She grew up in North Milwaukee and graduated from Custer High School in 1950 where she excelled in music (she played cello in the orchestra) and enjoyed the dramatic arts. She made many good friends there who remained part of a life-long club that regularly met and enjoyed each other’s company. She attended UW-Madison and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work. At college she met James Ebert, whom she married in 1954. Their marriage was blessed with nearly 61 years of companionship and five children. She supported him in his work as a pharmacist and businessman in many, many ways. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling together and spending summers at their north woods home. Church was always central to their lives and she found much joy in volunteering through choir, school, and social ministries. Carol was a strong and intelligent woman, a remarkable mother, and a loyal friend to many. The word “gracious” describes her perfectly, and describes the manner in which she touched people’s lives. She was competent and industrious in everything she did, from homemaking to caregiving, to volunteering in the elementary classroom. Her faith and kindness were always evident, especially in her presence and support to aging family members. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Carol was a life-long learner: a student of birds and flowers, human nature, theatre, classical music, sewing, and of course, cooking. Her life was marked by concrete expressions of her enduring Christian faith. It was equally marked by her deep devotion to Jim, and by love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Those who knew and loved her will miss her profoundly. Carol was unexpectedly called to her eternal home in heaven on October 6, 2016, at the age of 84. She will be deeply missed by her children: Gwen (Laura Sparks) Ebert of Madison; Beth (Gary) Evans of Mequon; Kurt (Connie) Ebert of Thiensville; Ruth (Will) Coats in South Carolina; and Claire (Tom) Hawtrey of Union, KY; twenty grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. Her body will be interred at Immanuel Cemetery in Cedarburg. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 14, at 1:00pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Grafton. Visitation will take place from 10:30-12:45. Memorials may be directed to the Central Africa Medical Mission.
