Carl Philip "Phil" Wittenberg

Carl P. Wittenberg “Phil” , 95, of Grafton, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023. Phil was born to Carl and Irene Wittenberg of Cedarburg, Wisconsin on June 18, 1928. He graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1946 after having soloed in a Piper 13 at Stevenson Fox Farm Field. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, the Air Force Institute of Technology, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (MBA). Phil made flying his career and joined the US Air Force, graduating from Pilot Training in 1952. His military career included assignments to Landstuhl, Germany, the Pentagon, Tachikawa, Japan, flying support to the US Military in Vietnam, Okinawa, to assist in the transfer of Okinawa to Japan, and Bogotá, Colombia as the US Air Force representative to the Colombian Air Force. He retired in 1981 at the US Air Base in Panama as a full Colonel.

Phil met the love of his life, Dorothy (Dottie) while on assignment at Fort Benning Georgia. While he was assigned in Germany, Dottie traveled to Landstuhl for their marriage in 1956. Together they had one daughter, Barbara. Phil retired a second time after working many years for Troy State University and returned to his hometown of Cedarburg. Here he renewed old friendships, made new ones, and enjoyed great times

golfing with his buddies.

Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Dorothy (née Kimball); his daughter, Barbara Wittenberg-Hasenauer (Matthias); and his granddaughter Joanna. He will be immeasurably missed for his integrity, sense of humor, and loving kindness.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2024 – 12:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory W63 N527 Hanover Ave. Cedarburg. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM. Interment Zur Ruhe Cemetery with Military Honors.
