Betty L. Guddeck

Betty L. Guddeck, 93, of Grafton passed away on Tuesday, November 28th at Anita’s Gardens of Grafton. Betty was born May 6th, 1930, to Max and Savera (nee Jens) Krause in Milwaukee, WI.

She grew up in Milwaukee where she enjoyed going to movies with her mother, especially musicals, and was a member of a roller skating club called the Gay Blades that skated to popular music.

Betty Graduated from Rufus King High School in 1948 and met her husband, Clarence (Chuck), in 1952 at Marty Zivko’s Ballroom in Hartford, WI. They were married April 23rd, 1955 at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.

Betty and Chuck made their home in Grafton, raising two children, David and Sharon. As a homemaker, Betty went the extra mile to care for her family going as far as ironing pillowcases and keeping straight vacuum lines. She sewed outfits for her daughter, costumes for her grandchildren, and doll clothes.

As a family they enjoyed trips to Florida and Sunday afternoon bowling. Betty also bowled in leagues at the Grafton Bowl with her friends and her daughter where she was proud to have once won an award for most improved average.

From the 1960s through 2011 Betty and Chuck often vacationed at the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas, NV. Betty could be found at the slot machines spending Chuck’s blackjack winnings. They were active members of the Rheinischer Verein Gruen-Weiss German Mardi Gras Society for nearly thirty years, celebrating many events with the club. She and Chuck worked at German Fest at the club’s booth serving wine and beer; even after they stopped volunteering they still made it a point to attend the fest every year that they could, often with their children and grandchildren.

Betty had a saying or a song for every occasion and took great joy in listening to music ranging from polka to Lynyrd Skynyrd. She enjoyed games of BINGO and Rummy Royale and took every opportunity to smack-talk her competitors. In the past few years she found enjoyment in doing crossword puzzles, shopping for the perfect Alfred Dunner outfit, family dinners on Sundays, and hair-styling appointments with her good friend, Wendy. She will be remembered for her Christmas cookies and making the best red velvet cakes.

Betty will be missed by her son, David “Goody” (Colleen) Guddeck and daughter, Sharon (Mike) Niesing. Loving grandmother of Beth (Ben) Farrell, Sara (Aaron Gronseth) Irwin, Charlie (Taylor Fyhrlund) Guddeck, and Michelle Guddeck.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, her brother, Roland, and her parents.
