Betty Jane Peterson (née Peschek) peacefully went to her heavenly home on Wednesday Nov. 7 at 10 pm. Betty was 90 years old. She suffered an extensive stroke on March 10, 2018 and moved from the Eagle River, Wisconsin area to Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg for her remaining time on Earth. Betty was born on April 27, 1928 at the Peschek home on Columbia Road in Cedarburg. She was the daughter of Meta (née Schuddahopf) and Herman Peschek. She grew up in Cedarburg and enjoyed swimming with friends in Cedar Creek (even water skiing), and gardening with her mother. Betty married Richard E. Peterson in 1950 at Immanuel Church in Cedarburg. They enjoyed a reception at The Cedars. Betty worked at the Cedarburg Light and Water Department as a bookkeeper, and supported her husband Richard (Dick) through dental school. Dick and Betty had two children Nial (Karen) and Kris (Dave) Papke. She adored her grandchildren, Bree (Greg) Highstrom, Baily Peterson, Bryka (fiancé Danny Little) Peterson, Erik (Kelly) Papke, and Ian Papke. She also loved her AFS and Rotary exchange children, Anna Tsipi, Oquelia Suarez, and Abdu Yawa. Betty and Dick retired to the Eagle River area in 1987, where they found their own heaven on earth in the North woods of Wisconsin. They named their home “Tooth Acres.” Betty was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Cedarburg and also a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Three Lakes. She served on the Bass Lake Association. Betty will be remembered for her unwavering sweet disposition, her giving heart, and her love of the North woods and all its creatures. Most of all, Betty will be remembered for her strong faith in the Lord. After her stroke, she continued to strengthen her faith and that of those around her. Often she would say, “This is a bit much, but we must be thankful to God,” even as her body was failing her. Betty truly loved Jesus and is now with Him in her “eternal North woods” - Glory be to God in the Highest Heaven! We praise His name! Thank you to dear friends both near and far for your prayers, cards, and love. God worked through all of you and gave strength to Betty, Nial, Karen, Kris, Dave, and her grandchildren. A service of remembrance will take place at Faith Lutheran Church in Cedarburg on Friday November 16 at 1:00 pm. Visitation is from 11:00 am until 12:45 pm. Memorials to Faith Lutheran Church appreciated.
