Betty A. Skebba of Cedarburg, Wisconsin passed away at age 80 on July 20, 2014. Betty was born on the family farm in Port Washington, Wisconsin on June 8, 1934 to Philip and Anna Karrels. Betty attended Port Washington High School. She married Wayne Skebba on December 17, 1955. Betty was employed by several restaurants, but it was at Port Road Inn where her warm-hearted, yet mischievous personality made her famous. She then worked as a sought-after hostess at Aunt Emmy’s, followed by the Alpine Village until she retired at age 72!! Betty taught teddy-bear making at the Cedarburg Senior Center, volunteered at Family Sharing, and participated in adventures with the Red Hat Club. Betty enjoyed rummaging for treasures, reading Maxine comics and watching the Golden Girls, gardening and doing arts and crafts with her grandchildren, playing cards with her friends from high school, and going for coffee and ice cream with “the girls.” After Wayne, her husband of 56 years passed, Betty split her time between the temperate summers and falls in Wisconsin, staying with her son, Terry and his family – then fleeing the Wisconsin winters to enjoy the dry heat of Las Vegas with her daughter, Lauri and her family. Although “Mom” will be deeply missed, we will always remember her hearty laugh and warm smile, her good-natured jokes, and her excellent meals. She is survived by her son, Terrence (Victoria) Skebba [Cedarburg, WI]; daughter Lauri (Jim) Shields [Las Vegas, NV]; four grandchildren: Kristin and Michael Shields (Las Vegas, NV); Tara Skebba, M.D. [St. Louis, MO] and Alex Skebba [Cedarburg, WI]; oldest brother Leo Karrels [Port Washington, WI] and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; brother, Milton; and sisters: Margaret, Sally, and Julianna. Her family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Serenity Hospice in Las Vegas, NV, and especially to Tina Reviea, R.N., for making Mom’s last days comfortable. Funeral services will be at St. Joseph Parish, 1619 Washington St., Grafton, WI on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10:00 am. Her family will greet friends and neighbors during the visitation at the church from 9:00 am until the time of service. Private inurnment and burial are at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
