Betty A. Schmidt Betty Schmidt, of Grafton, passed away at Aurora Medical Center, in Grafton, on January 4, 2017, at the age of 86 years. Betty was born June 20, 1930, on her parent’s dairy farm, in Kirchhayn, the daughter of the late Albert Graese and the late Elsie (nee Hart) Graese. She attended David’s Star Ev. Lutheran School and was confirmed in her faith at David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church. Years later, Betty met Erwin Schmidt at a farm dance, in Kirchhayn, where they hit it off immediately. Erwin and Betty were later united in marriage on June 10, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Grafton. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Debra. Betty worked at the Woolen Mill in Cedarburg for many years and after the mill closed, she went on to work at the yarn store across the street. She was employed there for over 20 years working as the manager of the store. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, counter-cross stitching, knitting, and making afghans for her family and friends. Betty is the beloved wife of 66 ½ years to Erwin Schmidt, loving mother of Debra (Michael) Ladwig, caring grandma of Eric (Elizabeth) Zimmermann, and dear sister of Willard (Ruth) Graese. She is further survived by her beloved dog, Muffin, as well as other relatives and many friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Elroy and Marvin Graese. A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, 5:30PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church (701 Washington St.), Grafton, with the Rev. Scott Kruse officiating. She will be in state on Tuesday, at the church, from 4PM until 5:30PM. Betty will be laid to rest at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, in Grafton. Memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the charity of your choice are appreciated. Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with the arrangements.
