Barbara S. Herz

Barbara Sue Herz

Barbara, beloved and devoted Mother and Nana to many, left us to join her heavenly father on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. She is survived by her daughters, Suzette Roddy (Herz), husband Patrick Roddy, Joette Herz, and Holly Schoettlin (Herz),husband Gordy Schoettlin; her grandchildren, Jamie Schoettlin, Ryan Kuhtz, Madeline Roddy, Marlee Kuhtz, and Timothy Roddy. Barbara will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, compassion, forgiveness and unwavering love for her family which will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

On January 22, 1936 Robert and Angeline gave birth to Barbara Sue Stright. They along with grandparents raised Barbara to be a kind, giving, witty, fun loving and adventurous child. Barbara and her sister Ruthie spent hours at Mitchell Park skating & picking dandelions, many evenings at “The Strand” movie theater and countless days kneeling at latin masses praying for those they loved.

On a bright summer day, Barbara met Richard George Herz while walking along Wisconsin Avenue. They both loved music, good food and cool cars, as well as time spent on the water and with family. Rich and Barbara married on February 16, 1957 at Gesu Church. Life changed in 1963 with their first daughter, Suzette Ann, and continued with two more beautiful girls Joette Margaret and Holly Ann. She passed on her devotion, sacrifice and passion about life, food, history, cultures, helping others and the importance of friendships. Barbara made sure her grandchildren were front and center in her life by spending endless hours playing games, reading, drawing, and looking for bugs. She was always there to listen to her grandchildren and always had a treat for them, a seemingly never ending supply of lemon drops. The five grandchildren know without a doubt how very much she loved and cared for them.

In 1998, Barbara had an accident which left her partially paralyzed and in chronic pain for the remainder of her life. While she endured this pain, her love, guidance, and support continued. Barbara persevered and overcame many obstacles.
