Arthur A. Palleon

Arthur, the son of Greek Immigrants, was born on December 3, 1938 in Bay View, Wisconsin. He was a Bay View High School graduate, Army volunteer, a University Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduate with a BA degree in Exceptional Education and later in life he completed a Masters Degree from UW-Whitewater. Arthur married Marjorie (Margie) (née Anderson) in 1962. Recently in August, they happily celebrated their 50th anniversary together with a very romantic dinner at Sanford's, a restaurant they both had wanted to visit. Their wedding was blessed with two now-grown children, Erica and Nicholas, both of whom were very close to Art and inherited his weird sense of humor. The Palleon family was very close, spent much time together, road-tripped every summer while the kids were still home and continued to vacation as a family when possible even as adults. Art was a very loving father and proud of his children. For 20 years, Art taught Exceptional Education students in the MPS system. His past students often entered his life long after his career. During Art’s hospice care last month a nurse asked Margie if, “Art Palleon had taught at Riverside University High School in the late 80’s.” She confirmed that he did. The nurse went on to praise Art’s role in positively changing her son’s life. The last years of his teaching career, he spent in RUHS as University Facilitator involving recruiting, admissions, college options, and advanced placement. Art was an active member of the MTEA. When he was not busy spending time with work and his family, Art's past-time and hobbies included traveling, making wine in the 70’s, reading, talking & joking around, walking his favorite buddy - his little dog Mao, and most importantly actively participating in community life. The family’s home in the city of Cedarburg was important to him and he served the city in several capacities: an appointed District 3 supervisor, Cedarburg Visioning Committee, Public Works Committee, an election official, and most recently on the Library Board. He took great pride in being an election official for over ten years in the City of Cedarburg. On Election day, he looked forward to meeting the other election officials and all the constituents in District 7. Art felt the building of the new Cedarburg Library is important to the future of Cedarburg and its citizens and was extremely pleased with the completion in 2013. Art enjoyed working with all the Library Board members. As a Cedarburg Lion member working with his brother Lions serving food or beverages and talking with the festival visitors was fun for Art. He assisted with community blood donations and proudly donated over 120 units in his lifetime. Art and Margie were a great team in many areas but especially in advocating for their beliefs in people, education, and the environment. They both felt their time was too precious to just 'retire'. They always advocated for the causes they believed but since Art's retirement he and Margie worked tirelessly together on causes that focused on educating the public of their voting rights, including the right to non-biased information on issues and candidates, as well as environmental causes, particularly that of Lake Michigan and the other Great Lakes. Art encouraged citizens of Wisconsin to realize the importance our water and lakes. He was on the board the League of Women Voters Ozaukee as the newsletter editor and on the board of Lake Michigan League of Women Voters as a Wisconsin delegate. A special thanks to the attentive oncology staff at Columbia St Mary’s Ozaukee, Dr. Nand, and Dr. Goniu. May he be remembered for his quick wit and his delicious baklava. He will be deeply missed. Survived by his loving wife and best friend of over 50 years, Margie (nee Anderson) Palleon, best friend and dear father of daughter, Erica Palleon, and of son, Nicholas Palleon. Further survived by brother, Charles (Arlene), James (Janis) and sister, Alice (Greg) Cepanica. brother-in-law, Carole & Jim Oster, and Henry Anderson, and nieces, nephews, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Fannie Palleon, his brother and sister, Theodore and Mary Palleon, his nephews, Theodore, Jr, and Jon Palleon, In laws, Benard and Lillian Anderson. Visitation will take place on Friday April 26, from 11:00 AM until service at 1:00 PM at the Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Lake Michigan League of Women Voters or The Friends of the Cedarburg Public Library are appreciated.
