Alfred “Al” Lund 79, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 25, 2014, just 33 days after losing his best friend and the love of his life, Sharon (nee Frederick) Lund. On January 24th, 2014, they celebrated 55 years of marriage. Al was born November 10, 1934, in Merrill, WI, to Percy and Lillian (nee Erickson) Lund. He graduated from Merrill High School in 1952. From 1954-1957, Al proudly served in the United States Air Force. Stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he taught communications and electronics. When discharged, Al returned to Milwaukee, WI, where he received his degree in Education from UWM in 1963. After graduating, he became a 5th grade teacher with the Fox Point School District. Seven years, later Al relocated his family to Grafton, WI, and became the principal at John F. Kennedy Elementary School for the next 24 years until his retirement in 1994. Al is survived by his cherished daughters Andrea (Ronald) Stibbs and Amy Witherspoon (Tony Balthazor). Dearest Grandpa of Allison Wheeler, Abbey (special friend Danny Ladwig) and Leah Stibbs, Sarah, Ethan, and Gavin Witherspoon. Further survived by his loving sister Birdie Severt, and sister-in-law Judy Frederick (nee Schmidt), nieces, nephews and many friends. Al is preceded in death by his beautiful wife Sharon (nee Frederick), his parents Percy and Lillian (nee Erickson), and brothers Kenneth and David Lund, brother-in-laws Leroy Severt and Daniel Frederick. Over the years Al belonged to numerous clubs and organizations. He was a member of the Freemasons, Grafton Lions Club, and the ROTB (Royal Order of the Taste Buds). There was never a time where he wasn’t “researching” something, and coincidently some hobby would result from that research: bird watching, reading, chess, genealogy, cooking, gardening, woodcarving, Mod Podge, stamp collecting, first day covers, ceramics, spices, handwriting analysis, locksmithing, baseball card collecting, the list goes on. Al loved to teach in school and out. He enjoyed his students and respected his teachers. Al was very caring and understanding when it came to his staff, it would always come with the all too familiar catch phrase, “Now you owe me one.” Al was a simple man. His greatest joy in life was his family. He loved his beer, ice cream, cheese, and watering the lawn at dusk with a glass of tomato juice and a pickle in hand. His teachings and advice will remain forever with us. So Dad, with the change jingling in your pocket remember, wherever you go, there you are! Dance with Mom till your heart’s content. Too-da-loo Please stop by and celebrate Al on Friday, June 6th, 2014, at the American Legion Rose-Harms Post 355 in Grafton, WI from 4-7PM. Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force and the Rose-Harms Legion Post #355 will take place at 5PM. The family would like to thank the nurses with Horizon Home Hospice, Dr. Kevin Goniu, and the amazing first responders from Grafton Fire and Rescue. We would also like to extend a very special Thank You to Craig Plopper from Mueller Funeral Home for your compassion and care in this last month.
