Walter E. “Bob” Wegner, of Grafton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at the Village Point Commons, at the age of 95 years. Bob was born on August 4, 1923, in Grafton, the son of the late Gustav Wegner and the late Lillian (nee Yost) Wegner. He attended Grafton High School and graduated with the class of 1941. Shortly after graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during WWII. Bob was united in marriage to Lorraine Barth on November 30, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Together their marriage was blessed with five children, Michael, Carol, Susan, Patricia, and Daniel. Bob was employed at Tecumseh working as a technical writer, and was a dedicated employee to Tecumseh for over 30 years, until he retired in 1984. Bob truly had a zest for life and was very active in his community. He was a longtime member of the Rose Harms American Legion Post #355, was active with Camp American Legion. Bob enjoyed fishing, ice-fishing, gardening in his backyard, collecting coins, and also collecting stamps. He was a true family man and loved getting his family together any chance he could so that he could spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob will be missed by so many people that he touched throughout his 95 years. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Lorraine Wegner, children, Carol (George) Krueger, Sue (Alan) Melichar, and Patti (Lloyd) Sudbrink; daughters-in-law, Marie Wegner and Kathy Ford, and brother, Marty (Marlene) Wegner. His legacy will live on in his 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Michael Wegner and Daniel Wegner, granddaughter, Kelly, siblings, Howard, Ralph, Eileen, and Fern, as well as brother-in-law, Ralph Barth, and sister-in-law, Jean Barth. Per Bob’s request, a private family service will be held. Bob will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, in Grafton. Memorials in memory of Bob can be made to the Rose Harms American Legion Post #355, in Grafton. The family would especially like to thank the Spire Caregivers at Village Point Commons for all of their wonderful care and compassion throughout this difficult time.
