Shirley E. Kohlwey (Nee Kegler) of Ellen’s Home in Port Washington, formerly of Saukville, died peacefully on July 11, 2017 at the age of 91. Shirley was born in Milwaukee, WI on March 5, 1926 the daughter of the late Edward H. & Hilda (Nee Schuppner) Kegler. Shirley was united in marriage to the late George F. Kohlwey on April 19, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. Shirley was a Sunday School Teacher at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg, was a member of the Luther League and sang in the mixed choir. In her early years, Shirley was a member of the Lindenwood 4-H Club. She worked at Gilbert Shoe Factory in Thiensville. After about a year of marriage, Shirley and her husband George bought a 40 acre farm in Sauvkille, WI. They eventually raised cattle and chickens and sold the eggs. Shirley was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, was an active member of the Ladies Women’s Guild, Fellowship Club and visited members through the Evangelism Program. Shirley took in 16 different student teachers over the many years. Shirley was also a member of the Ozaukee County Farm Bureau and was women of the year in 1978. She also belonged to the Saukville Legion Auxiliary where she did many volunteer hours and helped with the Bingo Games. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson, MO. Most importantly, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family. Shirley is survived by her children: Judith (Wayne) Wolff, Daniel (Carol) Kohlwey, Douglas (Betty) Kohlwey, Debra (Leon) Herther and Cynthia (Robert) Roden; sisters-in-law: Anita Eulert, Florence Rathke, Renata Rappold & Lillian Kohlwey. Further survived by 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her sister Delores Dobberfuhl. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 – 3:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church 701 Washington St. Grafton. Interment Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 1:00 PM – 2:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church or your choice appreciated. Shirley’s family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Ellen’s Home in Port Washington and Cedar Lake Hospice of West Bend for their loving care and compassion.
