Phyllis Rose Nieman (nee Poggenburg), devoted mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, closed her eyes and found her way to eternal peace when God opened the gates to Heaven and welcomed her home on Oct. 21, 2012 after a long, courageously fought battle against cancer. The affect she had on those of us left behind who knew her, who were loved by her and especially those raised by her, will never be forgotten. She literally spent her entire life raising a family and seeking out and responding to those who needed help. Those who found themselves on the receiving end of her grace, goodwill, generosity, and tireless desire to provide comfort to anyone in need, knew what it was like for God to be allowed to work through the heart and body of a mortal woman. While she never accepted credit, she was a person who listened to the sermons in the church she so dearly loved, then went out and let Jesus demonstrate His unconditional love through selfless and unconditional acts of kindness. Phyllis was born in Cedarburg to Ronald and Flora Poggenburg. She attended Cedarburg High School. She lived her entire life in Cedarburg. For over 40 years she lived in the country on Pioneer Road. Phyllis had a knack for growing things. She and her husband Howard owned and operated Pioneer Orchards (Nieman Apples) and raise their family of five children along with countless “pets” Phyllis took in. When her husband passed away, she moved to her mother’s home in the city of Cedarburg’s historic area located on Columbia Road. She spent the remainder of her life there, tending to the flowers, in the yard and her window box. Every day she fed her animals and birds in the backyard, this brought her great joy! Phyllis loved every minute of her life!! Phyllis is survived by her five children: Harold (Deanie) Nieman, Darlene Nieman, Sharon Nieman-Koebert, Valerie (Bill) Nieman Morse, Doreen (Chris) Nieman Gruenwald and former son-in-law Dr. Robb Koebert; grandchildren: Taylor Koebert, Marin Koebert, Vance Morse, Harald (Sara) Nieman; great grandchildren: Hayden and Helena Nieman; brother: Robert (Georigianna) Poggenburg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at Mueller Funeral Home W63 N527 Hanover Ave. Cedarburg, on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
