Patricia J. “Pat” (nee Dowe) Mantel found eternal peace on December 21, 2023 at the age of 87 years. Pat was born on June 30, 1936 in Grafton to the late Harry Dowe Sr and Meta (nee Krause) Dowe. Pat graduated from Grafton High School in 1954. She married her high school sweetheart, Alvin on May 19, 1956 at St John’s Lutheran Church, Lakefield, WI and was married 53 years until Alvin passed away in 2007. They were blessed with 3 beautiful children, Dale, Dawn and Dean.
Pat stood by Alvin’s side as they owned and operated Mantel Machine Products from 1956-2007. Pat kept busy raising her children and getting involved with their activities. Her family had a deep love for bowhunting and she was a lifetime member of Ojibwa Bowhunters. She was always very actively involved.
Pat loved her 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She wasn’t just a grandmother, she was their cheerleader. She attended their soccer, football, volleyball, cross country meets, track meets, swimming, baseball and softball games, along with school concerts and plays. She was so proud of each and everyone of them and she had the ability to make them feel like her favorite, showering them with attention and always making time for them. She especially loved their phone calls and pictures that were sent to her cell phone.
Pat loved spending time with her family at their lake home in Pardeeville as well as their hunting cabin in Split Rock. Every morning, Pat had the coffee perking and was busy in the kitchen making her delicious breakfast. She had a knack of making bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes and toast taste better than anyone else’s. Pat enjoyed hosting get away week-ends with her brothers and sister. They enjoyed playing sheepshead, along with board and card games. She was famous for her German Potato Salad, Bread Stuffing, Chicken Salad, Eclairs and Chocolate Cake. Doing this for her family made her heart full.
Pat was a very special lady who enjoyed people and socializing. She always made everyone feel special and loved. Many called her “Grandma Pat”. She was compassionate, kind, loving and generous. Her life challenges were always handled with grace, along with a calm quiet strength. Losing someone as dear as Pat is not easy and our hearts are heavy, but it’s comforting to know her memory will always be alive in us.
Pat was survived by her children, Dale (Arleen) Mantel of Richfield, Dawn Carranza of Slinger, and Dean (Paula) Mantel of Cedarburg. Grandchildren are Brandon Mantel, Travis Mantel, Tony (Ashley) Carranza, James (Katie) Carranza, Michelle (Tanner) Hahn, Kelsey (Noah) Wilterdink, Tanner Mantel, Luke (Emily) Mantel, Max (Maren) Race and Makenna (Jack) Samse. Great grandchildren, Lilly, Logan, Allison, Elizabeth, Grant, Cal and Everly. Brothers Harry (Donna) Dowe, John (Mavis) Dowe and sister Carol Eberhardt. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, her parents Harry & Meta Dowe, In Laws, Adolph and Julia (Tanel) Mantel, brother in laws, Richard Eberhardt and Robert Mantel, daughter-in-law Jodi (Meyer) Mantel and grandson, Chase Mantel.
