Melba “Mellie” Borchardt, nee Oberheu, died peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospice, in Mequon, WI on December 2, 2017 at the age of 86. She is survived by her sister, Bernice Noster, her grandchildren Carrie Brodhagen, Port Washington, Christie Meiser, Robert Meiser (Jessica), Antigo, 11 great-grandchildren, a nephew Jim Effenheim, Milwaukee, and a niece, Cheri Buchholz, Cedarburg. She is preceeded in death by her granddaughter, Tracie Meiser, her sister Verna Effenheim, her former husband, Eugene Borchardt, son Robert, daughter Margaret, and nephew Jerry Effenheim. Mellie was born on July 27, 1931 in Grafton, Wisconsin to Robert and Hulda Oberheu. She married Eugene Borchardt in 1950. After moving to Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he was stationed until his honorable discharge, and then came back to Wisconsin and lived in Mequon. They had their first child, Robert born in 1951 and Margaret in 1955. They then bought a home in Grafton. Mellie had a number of jobs outside the home. After graduating from school, she worked at Badger Mills in Grafton, and then at Lake Central Leather after her children were born. She was a very thoughtful and generous person who enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, playing baseball, and volleyball. Her other talents included baking and embroidery. She was strong in her faith and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran in Grafton where she was baptized, confirmed and married. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2017, 2:00 PM, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 701 Washington St., Grafton. Rev. Scott Kruse will officiate the service. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The family thanks Lasata Care Center and Hamburg Home for their wonderful care.
