Mary M. Tiernan

Mary M. Tiernan (nee Turner),

Of Cedarburg, peacefully passed away on September 22, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born on January 11, 1937, in Peoria, Illinois, to her late parents, Joseph Turner and Millicent (nee Swearingen). She was united in marriage to her late husband, James Tiernan at St. Johns Church in Loveland, Colorado on September 29, 1962. Together their marriage was blessed with two children, Joseph (Carol) Tiernan and Elizabeth (Dan) Klein.

Mary spent her early life in Colorado and graduated on June 3, 1955, from Fort Collins High School, and she grew up very musically gifted. Prior to her marriage, she would play piano and sing for multiple shows in the community. After she married, she was happily involved with the community through the service industry and banking. When they lived in Colorado, She and Jim loved to camp and fish with their children. After several moves, Mary and James found their forever home in Cedarburg. In the 2000’s, they officially became snowbirds, where they would travel to Arizona to escape the cold months in Wisconsin. You could always find Mary taking care of her dogs and pets. Her love for animals was profound, where she kept multiple wolf statues and pictures. She dabbled in multiple artistic endeavors, but her one true hobby was spending time with her family, whether that was having a nice meal or watching sports together.

Mary’s faith and self-driven religion kept herself going through her tough times. Because of her strength and faith, she overcame multiple illnesses and no matter how tough of times it was, she always kept a smile on her face. Anyone who came in contact with Mary immediately enjoyed her company. She always kept in touch with her friends from the 70’s that she held near and dear to her, whether she would write cards or telephone calls.

She is survived by her two children, Joseph (Carol) Tiernan and Elizabeth (Dan) Klein, along with her brother-in-law, Neil (Donna), and many nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Tiernan, sister, Sylvia (James) Mulick, along with her parents, Joseph and Millicent.

A special thanks to the staff at Village Pointe Commons, Brighton Hospice staff, and Barb Klein for their compassion and care for Mary throughout the years.
