Mary A. Baldwin

Mary Ann Baldwin, age 75, of Madison, Wisconsin, peacefully passed away on August 3, 2022 at The Kathy Hospice, with her family by her side. Mary was born to the late Roy and Mabel Rades, November 1, 1946, in Shawano. She graduated from Shawano High School in 1965. She was immensely proud to have received her Bachelor’s degree from Upper Iowa University in 1996 at the age of 49. Mary worked for over 36 years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, retiring in 2003 with emeritus status; she truly enjoyed her interactions with the engineering students, especially meeting those from other countries. Mary married the late Micheal Baldwin in 1969, and they built a family together in Middleton. When Micheal tragically died in a car accident in 1981, Mary became a widow and single mother at the very young age of 34. Mary is survived by two children: Kimberly (Michael) Russo, of Cedarburg; and Michael (Kathleen) Baldwin, of Downers Grove, IL. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Nicholas (Josephine) Russo; Alexander Russo; Emily Baldwin; Michaela Baldwin; and Molly Baldwin. Mary is further survived by sisters Bonnie, Linda and Cheryl; brother Eugene; as well as a host of extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her sister Judy and brother Richard. Mary was most proud of her family, loving to brag about her children and grandchildren to anyone she would meet. She traveled near and far to attend many of her grandchildren’s activities; be it football, baseball, hockey, volleyball, soccer, swimming, or golf. Not a family event, large or small, went by without her getting a picture to capture the moment together. When not spending time with family, Mary loved golf, NHL hockey (especially the Chicago Blackhawks), gardening, walking, shopping, as well as her involvement in the Republican Women of Dane County. Further, Mary was a staunch supporter of the armed forces veterans and gave them recognition whenever possible. Our family would like to express a heartfelt appreciation to all those health-care professionals who so compassionately and graciously cared for Mary along her journey including Froedtert Hospital, Aurora Medical Center Grafton, and especially The Kathy Hospice. Per Mary’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held for immediate family members at Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison. All are welcome to attend a memorial reception in her honor on Saturday, August 20, 12:00-4:00 pm, at Holy Name Heights, Madison. To honor Mary and her patriotic love of our country, the family is requesting donations in support of the American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation.
