Werner, Lucile J. “Lucy” (Nee Bailey) of Grafton, won her long battle with lung cancer and died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on January 24, 2017 at the age of 75. She was the beloved wife of the late Eugene J. Werner. Loving mother of Sandra (Dale) Allen, Jeffrey (Wendy) Werner and Kristin (Steven) Schauer. Proud grandmother of Laura (Kyle) Christenson, Kayla (Kenn) Matthews, James (Elizabeth) Allen; Joseph, Renee, Rebecca and Jesse Schauer. Proud GG of Kenny, Josephine and Evelyn Matthews; Edyn and Delaney Allen and Asher Christenson. Loving companion of Fred Blanke. Dear sister of Patricia Mack and Robert Bailey. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Bailey and Lillian Mindham (Nee Domstrich), sisters Irene Dwight, Beverly Shomin and Joan Clemens; and brother Lawrence Bailey. Lucy was a long time resident of Grafton, moving there in 1966, and living out the remainder of her life in that same home. Although she was most proud of being a wife, mother and grandmother, she worked various part time jobs, including as bookkeeper at the Grafton Hotel and in retail at Shopko, Wayne’s Drive In and Pet Supply Outlet. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed a variety of craft hobbies including crochet and cross stitch, and was a volunteer quilter at St. John Lutheran Church. She was a volunteer poll worker and health room nurse for the Grafton schools, and also gave many hours to the Grafton Lion’s Club, including selling tickets for many years at the annual Chicken Roast. In recent years she enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas and watching Packer games at the Bridge Inn with her “partner in crime,” Fred. She was a devoted grandmother, and proudly attended many basketball, baseball and soccer games, as well as concerts, musicals and other theater productions. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28 at 12:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 1193 Lakefield Road, Grafton. Interment will be immediately after the service at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Memorials to St. John Lutheran Church, Grafton are appreciated. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Anne Gilbert and Marcy Penfield and Heartland Hospice for their care and compassion in Lucy’s last days, her oncologist Dr. Douglas Puffer and the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital.
