Leo W. Schneider

Leo W. Schneider, of Grafton, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, July 7, 2017, at the age of 88 years. Leo was born on the Schneider family farm October 13, 1928, in Port Washington, Wisconsin, son of the late Edwin Schneider and late Julia (nee Langers) Schneider. Leo attended Port Washington High School, and was part of the school's band, playing the trumpet. Leo graduated in 1947. He also took up bookkeeping, and completed a two year course of study at St. Mary's High School in Port Washington in 1945. Leo excelled at baseball during his youth, and was closely watched by many managers and recruiters, but was handpicked by the great Rogers Hornsby. After High School graduation Leo attended "Rogers Hornsby Baseball College", in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Leo played for many teams, but was most proud of his affiliation with the Chicago White Sox. His love for baseball stayed with him for the rest of his life. Leo was a proud Army Veteran, having been drafted in 1951, during the Korean War. He served his country for two years overseas, and received an honorable discharge in 1953. Leo enjoyed watching sports, playing cards with family and friends, and reading the newspaper. He had a sweet tooth, often eating donuts, cake, or pie for breakfast. A dedicated worker and provider for his family, he worked for Simplicity, now known as Briggs and Stratton, until retiring in 1993. Leo was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers for over 40 years. Leo is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet (nee Pantel) Schneider, children; Kelly (Robert) Nelson and Robert Schneider, grandchildren; Amanda (Don) Hartsell and Taylor Nelson, and great-grandson; Connor (Hartsell) Lentz. He is further survived by two brothers, two sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. As Leo had requested, private services will be held. Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory Cedarburg assisted the family with arrangements.
