Kevin James Porterfield,
Of Grafton, died peacefully on July 9, 2024, just before dawn at Lawlis hospice in Mequon, WI at the age of 71.
Kevin was a carpenter by trade, he chose his trade at a very early age in a very different time. When he was about 7 years old and as houses began to spring up in his Bayside neighborhood, he watched the carpenters intently at a distance as they roughed in the new homes. It wasn’t long before the carpenters adopted him as a mascot junior apprentice and began to give him small tasks like picking up nails. Soon his mom began to pack him a lunch and off he would go to the job site. Sawdust was in his blood from then on.
He was a true craftsman, and his Porterfield Building Company truck was a familiar sight in and about Ozaukee County but mostly in Cedarburg. He continued working and advising others in his trade, until very recently. He was a generous soul with both his talents and time.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 42 years, Heather (nee Pape) Porterfield; and his four children, Dylan (Michelle) Porterfield, Logan Porterfield, J. Ryan Fonder, and Amanda (Shawn) Brown. He is further survived by grandchildren, Hunter and Nolan Porterfield, Jakob, Joshua, and Jakson Fonder, Anikka, and Logan Brown; great grandson, Lukas Lee; his sister, Wendy Porterfield; brother, A. Kent Porterfield, along with many other family and dear friends
He was preceded in death by his parents, Colonel Waldon Porterfield and E. Darlene Porterfield, and also his dear brother, Wally Porterfield.
Kevin had a great love of his country and those who protect it. Memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project are greatly appreciated. Private family services were held
