Kathleen Mary Straub

Kathleen Mary Straub, of Cedarburg, formerly of Ocean View, Delaware, passed away at the Lasata Care Center, on September 27, 2012, at the age of 99 years. Kathleen was born, in Lone Rock, Wisconsin, on November 24, 1912, the daughter of the late Frank Straub and the late Henri (nee Dalrymple) Straub. Kathleen graduated from The Mt. Sinai Hospital School of Nursing, in Milwaukee, in 1935, as a registered nurse, and later received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education, from the Marquette School of Nursing, in 1944. She also attended Columbia University, in New York City, where she received her Master’s degree as well her Doctorate in Education, and further received an Honorary Doctorate, from Marquette University, in 1979. Kathleen was a Nurse Administrator in a number of hospitals throughout the Midwest, and also served as an Associate Professor at The Catholic University of America School of Nursing, in Washington D.C. Kathleen further taught in The Catholic University of Colombia, South America, and was a visiting professor at The University of Louvain, in Belgium. She spent the latter years of her career in the area of long term care in the Federal government from which she retired in 1981. Since retirement, Kathleen spent a considerable amount of time as a Hospice volunteer. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, as well as three brothers, John Straub, Gordon A. Straub, and Francis Dean Straub. She is survived by her best friend, Jean Bainter, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, September 29, 2012, 10AM at St. Peter of Alcantara, in Port Washington. Interment took place at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, in Spring Green, Wisconsin. Memorials to the Lasata Care Center or Heartland Hospice are appreciated.
