James S, Chapman, age 90, of Mequon passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019. James was born in Kingsford, MI on December 29, 1928, son of John H. and Mary A. Chapman. He was a long time member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, in Brown Deer. He married Betty (Gothe), his high school sweetheart, in 1953 and she preceded him in death in 1990. James is survived by his sons: James, jr. (Janet) of Plymouth, Jeffrey of West Bend, John (Janis) of Cedarburg; Grandchildren: Bryan (Rebekah), Ben (Fiancee Paige), Jacob (Kristin), Joshua (Michaela), Timothy, Daniel and Joseph; and 9 great-grandchildren. Service to his country and others was a theme of James’ life. He enlisted in the Navy following high school and was honorably discharged in 1952, after serving 8 years. He worked as a Fire-fighter and a Police Officer for the City of Brown Deer, retiring as a Sergeant in 1990. James liked his sports, especially cheering for the Packers, Badgers and his home state team the Michigan State Spartans. Attending the many sporting events his grandchildren participated in was always a priority to him. James was a fisherman and in his early years he loved to spend his time on the lakes in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. James was also an avid gardener, spending many hours on his backyard acres and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with others. In his later years, James found companionship in his dog Emma, and the two of them would spend time walking the trails of Ozaukee County together. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 at the Mueller Funeral Home, W63 N527 Hanover Ave., Cedarburg from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service celebrating James’ life at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army in James’ name are appreciated. A special thank you from James’ family to the staff at Lasata Care Center and The Crossings for their compassionate and loving care. For online condolences please visit www.muellerfuneralhome.com
