Howard J. Sager

Howard J. Sager, of Mequon, passed away on October 24, 2023, at the Ascension St. Mary’s Ozaukee Hospital, at the age of 80 years.

Howard was born on January 11, 1943, in the town of Granville, Wisconsin, the son of the late Reinhold Sager and the late Helen (nee Turinski) Sager. He attended Trinity Ev. Lutheran School Grade School and went on to graduate from Washington High School, in Germantown. Howard was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Carole Boehlke, on May 23, 1964, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Freistadt. Together their marriage was blessed with two children, John and Jennifer.

Howard worked as a demo operator for Caterpillar Equipment, in Milwaukee, where he was a faithful and dedicated employee for over 47 years.

In his early years, Howard was an avid deer hunter, who loved hunting with his family in Thorp, Wisconsin. Howard loved helping John on the farm, fixing equipment and driving wagons.

Howard is survived by his beloved wife, Carole Sager, children, John (Caryn) Sager, and Jennifer (Timothy) Zimmerman, grandchildren: Maria, William “Billy”, and Rebekah Zimmerman, John (Alyssa) Piotrowski, and Amber (James) Dickmann; great-grandchildren, Beau and Harper Dickmann, sister-in-law, Sharon Sager, and brother-in-law, Charles (Sue) Boehlke. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Barbara Cullen, Ralph Peterson, and Ron Sager, nephew, Daniel Boehlke, and niece, Rebecca Boehlke.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, 3:00 PM at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church (10729 W. Freistadt Rd.), Freistadt, with Rev. Chris Conklin officiating. Interment will take place at the church cemetery following the Funeral Service. Howard will be laid in state on Saturday, at the church, from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Lutheran Historical Society Building Fund are appreciated.
