Helen Giesler Nee Schmid

Helen Giesler (nee Schmid) of Cedarburg, died on Monday, November 22, 2010, at the age of 102 years. Dearest mother of Inge (Frank) Wintersberger of Cedarburg, Annemarie (Michael) Breitmeyer of The Woodlands TX and Hannelore (John) Weber of Granger IN. She was the beloved Oma of seven grandchildren: Kim (Ahmad), Rick (Victoria), Lore, Hans (Katie), Heidi (Charlie), Sonia (Ben) and Anya (Drew) and of 13 great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Wendel and her 4 brothers and 7 sisters. Helen was born on November 26, 1907. She had a happy childhood, surrounded by her 11 siblings, on a farm in the beautiful Black Forest in Germany. She earned a nursing degree and spent several years in Spain and England working as a governess. In 1939, she married Wendel Giesler, an engineer, also from the same farming village. In 1952, the family immigrated to the United States and settled in Fond du Lac. A skilled seamstress, Helen taught sewing at the Singer Sewing Center, and, in retirement, German at the Vocational School. In 1994, Helen and Wendel relocated to Cedarburg to be close toher daughter, Inge. There she continued her avid interest in gardening and active concern for the environment. Helens close-knit family however was the most important thing in her life. She had a special love for children, and everyone who came into contact with her remarked about her kindness. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11AM on Saturday, November 27, 2010, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church South (N44 W6055 Hamilton Rd.), Cedarburg. Friends will be received at the church on Saturday from 9:30AM until the time of the Mass. Interment will be at Immanuel Cemetery in Cedarburg.
