Helen A. Glowacki (nee Schieber) of Pewaukee formerly of Grafton for more than 50 years passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 10, 2012 at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital at the age of 89 years. Helen was born on May 14, 1922 the third child of George and Laura Schieber (nee Schaefer) in a log cabin house in the Town of Day in Marathon County, WI. She married the late Harold Glowacki on November 8, 1951 in Milwaukee and moved to Grafton two years later and resided there for over fifty years. Helen had one daughter Christine who became involved in 4-H. Christine wanted to be in the dog project so Helen became the dog leader. She was a 4-H dog leader for elven years. Helen was active in homemakers club for thirty three years in Ozaukee County. You could find her every year at the Ozaukee Co. Fair helping in the cream puff booth. Helen worked for sixteen years in the office at Tecumseh until her retirement on June 6, 1986. Several of the women and Helen continued to get together for years after retirement to socialize. In retirement, Helen was a very active at both the Cedarburg and Grafton Senior Centers. She loved ceramics, striders walking group and all the trips. Both Helen and Harold enjoyed traveling during retirement and they informally belonged to a “travel group” who traveled together. Helen was involved in developing a “support group” for spouses of residents at Lasata Health Care Center. Her husband Harold lived at Lasata for several years until his death in 2005. Four years ago Helen moved closer to her daughter and has been living at Kirkland Crossings in Pewaukee. She has continued to enjoy exercising, art, pet therapy and bus trips. Helen is survived by her daughter Christine (Jim Buchert) Glowacki of Nashotah, sisters; Lorraine Guldan of Marshfield, Germaine (Frank) Tehako of Iron Mountain, MI, brother; Donald (Cecelia) Schieber of North Prairie, aunt; Lucille (nee Schaefer) Klotz of Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by sisters; Florence, Marion, Evelyn, Leona, brothers Raymond, Harold and George Jr. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 12, 7 PM at the Mueller Funeral Home and Crematory 979 N. Green Bay Rd. Grafton. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from4 – 6:45 PM. In lieu of flowers family will set up a memorial at Kirkland Crossings in The Arbor.
