Hazel Mae Janssen passed peacefully in to her new life on Monday, September 3, 2018 at The Cottages in West Bend, Wisconsin. Hazel and her husband William formerly operated general stores in Underhill and Hintz, WI. Hazel was born to Michael and Daisy Klein on December 9, 1916 in Redwood County, MN. She spent her childhood in Milroy, MN and attended school there until her graduation in 1934. Hazel proudly remembered leaving Milroy on a train, leaving her family behind, for the big city of Chicago. She attended Mercy School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse in 1938. It was here she met fellow nurses Jean and Mary Janssen who introduced her to their brother Bill. They were married on March 30, 1940 in Milroy, MI. Returning to Wi, Hazel’s life was one of a home maker…wonderful roll maker… as well as co-manager of the family business. She was always a helping hand to anyone needing care. Bill and Hazel were long time members of St. John’s Catholic Church in Gillett, WI. She was an active member of the Altar Society. Hazel was the loving mother of Mary Ann Stecher, William (Janice), Michael (Paula), Richard (Barbara). She will be missed by her 12 grandchildren James (Raquel) Stecher, John Stecher, Paul Janssen, Kim Janssen, Amanda (Chad) Gustafson , Michael Kelly Janssen (Susan), Mary Jo Erb (Kevin) , Scott Janssen (Renee), Brooke Janssen (Matthew Hayes), Megan Nellis (Joe), Abigail Piatti (Federico) and 20 great grandchildren. She leaves behind special nieces and nephew Ann Harmon, Emmy Funk, John and Mary Springbrunn as well as other family members and friends. Her family feels blessed to have had Hazel in their lives for over 101 years! Hazel was preceded in death by her Mother and Father Daisy and Michael Klein, Mother and Father in law, Mabel and William E. Janssen, Brother Howard (Martha), Sister Pearl Eatros (Alex) , Sister in law Jean Springbrunn (Gilbert), Sister in law Mary Harmon (Robert), Son in law James Stecher and granddaughter Michelle Korth. Services will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Gillett on Saturday, September 8, 2018 . A visitation will be held at 9:30 with mass at 10:30. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Memorials to St. John’s Catholic Church appreciated.
