Gordon K. Dreblow

Gordon Kenneth Dreblow passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and close friends at Aurora Hospital, Grafton, November 7, 2017 due to complications from liver cancer. He is survived by his brother, Robert (Jean), niece, Jennifer (Matt) Collins, nephews Robert Gordon and Thomas Robert, and grand nephew, Mason Collins. He is also survived by niece, Robin Dalzell, and many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Gordon H. and Ida S. Dreblow, and sister Valerie Plank. Since 1991, Gordon was the Owner/Operator of the L&G Express in Cedarburg, WI. Prior to that, he was a partner in the operation of Nitz’s Inn, Cedarburg, WI. Gordy was a proud 1968 graduate of Cedarburg High School. Gordy graduated from UW-Platteville with a B.S. in Light Building Construction and Mathematics. He returned to school and pursued a degree in Civil Engineering from UW-Madison. He passed both the Engineer in Training and Professional Engineering exams in his first attempt. No easy feat for those who know! After graduation, he was employed by Super Products, American Appraisal and as an engineer in the construction of the Pleasant Prairie Power Plant. However, Gordy’s true calling was the social environment found in his establishments. Gordy was an avid sports fan, especially for college basketball and the Marquette Warriors, now Golden Eagles. He was also a die-hard baseball fan of the Cedarburg Mercs and the Milwaukee Brewers, attending his last game behind home plate on May 11 with his brother. Gordy’s fighting spirit came to light 17 years ago when he faced heart failure and had open-heart surgery resulting in six bypasses. He was told the only way he was going to survive was to give up four things: alcohol, nicotine, sodium, and caffeine. As you all may know, Gordy was a numbers guy and he religiously watched his numbers. He gave up alcohol, stopped smoking, reduced salt and eliminated caffeine. He ended up getting off Warfrin in 4 years – unheard of! He was also a prostate cancer survivor and approached his liver cancer with the same fighting spirit. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. We wish to thank all the staff in IR at Aurora Grafton, WI Hospital, who saw him multiple times weekly. In fact, the nursing staff is known as “Gordy’s Girls” and they will greatly miss him for his interest in their lives and the connections of people they knew in common. We also wish to thank the ICU staff, Dr. Zukowski and his staff at the Aurora Cancer Center, Grafton, WI. A Memorial In Honor of the life of Gordon K. Dreblow, will be held day, Thursday November 16, 2017. Time of Remembrance 4 pm, followed by Reception, until 6 pm, Location: Cedarburg Peter Wollner Post American Legion, W57N481 Hilbert Ave., Cedarburg, WI 53012 Honoring Gordy’s request, memorials to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission and Salvation Army are appreciated.
