George B. Mayer of Grafton formerly of Shorewood, passed away peacefully on Friday March 25, 2016 at Trinity Village in Milwaukee at the age of 87 years. George was born in Sheboygan, WI on March 2, 1929 to the late George J. and Rose (nee Hiebing) Mayer and married Marie (nee Herman) on August 30, 1952 in Sheboygan, WI. George was born and raised in Sheboygan, WI. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post in Sheboygan before moving to Shorewood. He loved golfing, fishing, & bowling but most of all his love was his family, and his grandchildren, and being active in his children’s and his grandchildren’s love for sports, always being available to take them and watch them partake in their sporting activities. George is survived by his wife Marie of Milwaukee, children; Philip (Diane) Mayer of Ironton, MN, Gary (Lynn) Mayer of Glendale, Cindy (Daniel) Grunst of Milwaukee & Kathryn (William) Hirschinger of Grafton, grandchildren; Brian Hirschinger, Lauren (fiancé Aaron Lorge) Hirschinger, Kevin Hirschinger, Colin (Anna) Mayer, Justin Mayer, Theresa (John) Backowski, Jason (Valerie) Levin, Matthew Mayer, Robert Mayer, Benjamin (Maggie) Grunst, Andrew (Bridget) Grunst, Michael Grunst & James (Audrey) Grunst. He was preceded in death by grandchildren; Ryan Mayer and Stephen Mayer. George is further survived by 11 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral rite with communion will be held on Wednesday March 30, 2016, 11:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church 1619 Washington St. Grafton. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 – 11:15 AM.
