A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, December 20, 2007 7PM at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross, for Emmons E. Schmit who passed away on December 15, 2007 at the Belgium Gardens, at the age of 86 years. Visitation will take place prior to the funeral mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church from 4-7PM. Father Richard Fleischman and Father James Ernster will co-celebrate the funeral mass. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Grafton. Emmons was born on September 2, 1921 in Port Washington, to the late Nic and the late Cecelia (nee Schinker) Schmit. He later married the late Florence Schwenner on March 6, 1943 in Grafton. Their marriage was blessed with eight children. Emmons was a Navy Veteran who served his country during WWII. He was also a member of the Rose Harms American Legion Post #355 in Grafton. Emmons retired from A.O. Smith after having worked their for 12 years and he also owned and operated Custom Cabinets in Grafton. Emmons was an avid fisherman but his true love was his family. Emmons is survived by his children: Gerald (Dianne) Schmit, Jeanne (David) Bichler, Joyce (Dennis) Damerow, Joanne Laper, John (Patti) Schmit, Jackie (Jeff) Lucas, Joseph (Catherine) Schmit, and Jeffrey (Carie) Schmit, and siblings: Donald (Jenny) Schmit, George (Joanne) Schmit, Clara (Fred) Schanen, and Thomas (Diana) Schmit. Emmons is further survived by 31 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Emmons was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Schmit, his parents, and one brother, Nicholas. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials of your choice are appreciated.
