Dorothy E. Beddow

Dorothy Evelyn Beddow was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at age 100. She died peacefully at Lasata Care Center surrounded by her loving family and friends. She is survived by her two children, Diana Radtke and Rick Beddow; six grandchildren and spouses; nine great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews. Dorothy was born in Iroquois, S.D., on Jan. 30, 1912. She graduated from Yankton College and taught high school English, before marrying Earl Beddow. They were married for 57 wonderful years. They moved to Minneapolis, where they raised their family. She was a true blue Vikings fan until she moved to Cedarburg in 2006 at the age of 94; then she put on a cheese head and turned to the green and gold. Some of Dorothy’s interests included reading, playing bridge and poker, volunteer work, discussing politics and collecting Indian jewelry. She organized a prayer chain for her church and was still active in her early 90s. She loved traveling, and her last three trips were to Hawaii while in her 80s to see her granddaughter, Kym. Some of her favorite Hawaiian foods were kiwi, papayas and home-grown avocadoes. She loved these so much that she even tried to smuggle them in her luggage. Later, at the Kona airport, agriculture inspection was on to her and found two huge avocadoes hidden in her double-D brassiere. Dorothy also had a lifelong interest in collecting antiques. She would often say, 'I am taking my treasures with me, so I’ll need a U- Haul to Heaven.' She was preceded in death by just about everyone and would remark that she was 'older than God.' Dorothy loved life, and it loved her back. She was often heard saying, 'I’m going to live forever,' and she almost did! A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Lasata Care Center, Cedarburg on Sunday, March 25, at 4 p.m.
