David T. Purdy

David Thomas Purdy, Born to Eternal Life on Monday, September 30, 2019, in Cedarburg, at the age of 86 years, after a long illness. Dave was born in Milwaukee, on November 30, 1932, to the late Harvey and the late Mabel (nee Ogden) Purdy. Dave served his country in the United States Army, beginning his military life as an Army MP in November, of 1952. In 1955, he was transferred to an Airborne Division after graduating from the Army Language School, in Mandarin, located in Monterrey, California. Dave finished out his military career serving in Korea, until he was honorably discharged in May, of 1957. Upon his return home, Dave went on to complete his Liberal Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. It was there where he met the love of his life Sandra Whitmore. They were united in marriage on August 11, 1962, in Racine. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Pamela and Kenneth. Dave entered into the field of industrial advertising and worked for Racine Federated for over 25 years. He was a faithful and dedicated employee until he retired. Both Dave and his wife, Sandy have been very active members in their church, Community United Methodist Church, in Cedarburg, for 47 years. Above all, family was everything to Dave. He was a dedicated father, a loving husband, a kind and generous man to his family and friends, as well as to complete strangers. Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sandra Purdy, his children, Pamela (Randy Giertz) Purdy and Kenneth (Bridget) Purdy, granddaughter, Chloe Purdy, and brother, James (Jeanne) Purdy. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Gordon and Donald Purdy, his in-laws, Edward and Lucille Niesen, and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Purdy, Nancy Purdy, and Burdette (Dick) Anderson. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2019, 1:00 PM at Community United Methodist Church (W68 N563 Evergreen Blvd.), Cedarburg, with the Rev. Don Greer presiding. He will be in state on Monday, at the church, from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Dave will be laid to rest at Immanuel Cemetery, in Cedarburg, immediately following the Funeral Service, with military honors performed by the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Community United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, or to Multiple Sclerosis Society are appreciated.
