David J. Brown

David John Brown Born to eternal life on October 22, 2013, at the age of 76 in his home in Cedarburg, WI. A celebration of David’s life will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton, on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at 5:00pm. Father Steve Lampe, of St. Joseph’s Parish, will lead the service. David was born and grew up in his family home in West Allis, WI. With a limitless work ethic, David rose to the ranks of manager at the Milwaukee Journal by the age of 16, working and attending West Allis Central high school full-time. David continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Accounting, and he became a Certified Public Accountant in 1963. A devout Catholic, David met the love of his life, wife Nancy (nee Striegl), while attending Our Lady of Perpetual Help devotions at St. Therese’s Parish in Milwaukee. They married in 1966. In 1976, he and Nancy made what David would call one of their best decisions and moved to the charming city of Cedarburg, WI. David and Nancy loved the quaint shops and quiet streets of this picturesque community and were proud to raise all five of their children in this idyllic setting. When David wasn’t being a “bean counter” or “Certified Paper Arranger,” as he jokingly referred to his honorable profession, he led the life of a caring family man, an avid golfer, and a dangerously good Sheepshead player. David was always ready to meet whatever challenges life had in store for him, from working accounting miracles with his keen mind for finance and business, to tackling truly frightening landscaping projects on the home front. Upon retirement, David kept his mind and body active, travelling with Nancy, including taking frequent trips to Northern Wisconsin for fishing excursions, enjoying an Alaskan cruise, and most recently, a family trip to Green Lake, WI. David took immeasurable pride in his five children and their spouses, Mark (Amy), Steven (Leslie), Scott (Ronda), Lisa (Leo), and Melissa (Sam). His six grandchildren, Jacob, Isaac, Ryan, Evan, Anna, and Alex, were unlimited sources of joy for him. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 47 years, Nancy. Those who knew David, even if only briefly, immediately sensed his fierce honesty and dedication to upholding all that is right in this world. He loved to laugh and entertain others with his elaborate storytelling, which included colorful descriptions of all the changes he had seen transpire during his lifetime. Above all, David believed in helping others, and right up until his passing, David was an active volunteer for Interfaith Caregivers of Ozaukee County. To say David will be missed is a falsehood – to say that we will think of him with every breath we take, now and until the end of our days, is closer to the truth. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Interfaith Caregivers of Ozaukee, Foundation for Religious Retirement, House of Peace, Milwaukee Rescue Mission, or St. Joseph Catholic Church, are appreciated.
