David E. “Dave” Schmalz, of Grafton, passed away, on his birthday, February 19, 2022, at the age of 67 years. Dave was born on February 19, 1955, in Port Washington, the son of the late Herbert O. Schmalz and the late Lucille (nee Viesselman) Schmalz. He later attended Grafton High School and graduated with the class of 1973. Shortly after his graduation, Dave enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1977. Dave was united in marriage to Cris Schmalz and they spent 21 years together before they amicably split. Together they were blessed with two children, Tiffany and Patrick. Dave went on to work as an I.T. Manager at Advance Die Casting for over 25 years, until he retired after a long and faithful career. He was a member of the Rose Harms American Legion Post #355, in Grafton. Dave loved all sports, in his early years, he enjoyed racing moto-cross bikes and even drove one of his bikes back to Wisconsin from Texas. He enjoyed playing volleyball with his brother, Chuck, and was also in a couple of coed volleyball leagues. In his later years, Dave could be found sitting in front of the television watching any sport possible. That is how much he loved the thrill of competition. Dave is survived by his children, Tiffany (Tim Kosut) Schmalz, and Patrick Schmalz, and brothers, Don (Martha) Schmalz, Chuck Schmalz, and Bob Schmalz. He is further survived by the mother of his children, Cris Schmalz, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenny Schmalz, and sister-in-law, Donna Schmalz. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the Rose Harms American Legion Post (1540 13th Ave.), Grafton. Military Honors will be performed promptly at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials of your choice are appreciated.
