Christine "Chris" E. Moertl

Christine Elizabeth Moertl, passed beautifully into her next life on April 20, 2023, surrounded by loving staff at the facility that was her home for many years.

Chris was born on July 1, 1951, in Milwaukee. She is the daughter of the late Sally and Jack Moertl. Chris grew up in Mequon, the eldest of seven children. Her very playful and adventurous spirit provided much fun for her younger siblings. Chris graduated from Dominican High School (1969) and graduated from Marquette University with a BA and master’s degree in social work. Her easy way in working with disabled adults in healthcare, as well as refuges and marginalized people throughout Milwaukee matched her chosen field of study.

Chris’s adult life was overshadowed by her longstanding struggles with mental illness. Her deep faith carried her throughout her life and never wavered. She faced her terminal diagnosis with the joy of knowing she would soon meet Jesus and extended unconditional love and forgiveness to herself and to all of her relationships.

Chris is the proud mother of Michael (Julie) Braunstein, Mequon, and Matthew (Quynh) Braunstein, Dallas TX. Their combined family of 5 grandchildren were a source of great love. She is further survived by Marggie Moertl, Algoma, Mary (Joseph) Mendla, Grafton, Ann (Gary) Jacobs, Dallas TX, David (Lynn) Moertl, Mequon, and Jane (Kirk) Anderson, Mequon as well as many nieces and nephews. Her special lifelong friend, Patricia Hagerty Coats, Boulder CO, was a faithful friendship that she counted on.

Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Sally Moertl, as well as her brother Fritz Moertl (Judi,Palatine IL).

Chris will be remembered in a Celebration of Life later, and her ashes will be buried beside her parents and other family members at Holy Cross Cemetery.

We wish to extend deepest gratitude to all the staff at Abundant Life Manor for their constant care and concern. Sue, Jude RN, and Tal are just some of the caregivers that she spoke of so often, always grateful for their role in her life. Her friendship with Betty, a fellow resident, offered them joyous companionship and much laughter over the past years.

We also want to extend a heartfelt thanks to the St. Croix Hospice team for their excellent hospice care. Chris was always kept comfortable during her cancer decline and death. Special thanks to Amelia, RN and Melissa, SW.
