Carolyn A. Steen

Carolyn A. Steen of Grafton, passed away at Zilber Family Hospice, on January 10, 2017, after a long fought battle with lung cancer at the age of 54. Carolyn, who was filled with laughter and had a loving personality, was born February 27, 1962 in Milwaukee, WI to Gary Gerhard and Chris (nee Fantelli) Speth. She was united in marriage to Bruce Steen in 1990, six months after meeting in Orange County, CA. They were then blessed with two children, daughter Paige, in 1994, and son Brandon, in 1997. She was always surrounded by her kids and family. Carolyn grew up in Glendale, WI and while attending Nicolet High School, she was a member on the tennis team. After graduation, Carolyn traveled to California, where she fell in love with the state, thus deciding to move there. While in California, she received her Associate’s Degree in Accounting, even though her dream job had always been to become a special needs teacher. Bruce and Carolyn would also relocate quite a few times, going from California, back home to Wisconsin, living in Wauwatosa and finally settling in Grafton. While living in Wisconsin a second time, Carolyn was the accountant for Rockwell Allen-Bradley and later on in life, the Deputy Treasurer for Ozaukee County. She also enjoyed serving others, as she volunteered for the Special Olympics and the Grafton Gladiators. Her joys in life were dogs, dancing and being active outdoors, participating in various activities such as camping, hiking, biking and walking. Her true love in life, however, was spending time with her kids and family. She is further survived by her father Gary Gerhard, mother Chris Speth (Nee Fantelli), sister Janet (John) Riggio, brother Robert Gerhard, sister Kathy (Avie) Gerhard, sister Annette (Kenya) Stafford and brother Dave (Carrie) Gerhard. Brother-in-law Mark Steen and sister-in-law Sue Steen. She was preceded in death by her late husband Bruce Steen.
